It’s open to everyone so if your feeling creative why not have a go! Hmm what to paint?

After my abstract art experiment, I got this idea in my head suddenly- I think I was in bed at the time but I got a vision of bold coloured tiles arranged in interesting ways that would look good on the wall of boring white bathrooms and other wet areas. They don’t take very long to design or make but are aesthetically pleasing I think. I have only made two so far just to see if anyone might be interested in buying one cos I don’t really want a lot of them for myself. Let me know if you want one. Pictures are under the Coordinating Wall Art tab on this site. I’m currently thinking of another painting to do- possibly of a traditional one of cows as requested by a shop lady who has my paintings on display. Although, I’m meant to be painting the house at the same time so it could take a while.

Just updating everyone on what happened to my abstract painting ‘Big Bang Theory? Turns out it did a lot better than I thought it would when I revealed it to the world in the South East Art Society members’ exhibition themed Genesis. I was just standing there watching everyone go up for their prizes once their name had been announced as the winner- then suddenly my name was announced as being the winner of Highly Commended for the 2D section. No way! I had never done an abstract before and it won something. I spent three hours on this one as opposed to three weeks normally for my more traditional paintings. I have won a few prizes now for my traditional/ contemporary style and now I can add abstract to my list of accomplished styles.

Today I started- and almost finished an abstract painting for an exhibition coming up in three weeks and it may need that long to dry as a lot of paint was thrown around. Got pretty messy and I have a new respect for abstract art as it is quite exhausting but fun and interesting to look at. Its called Big Bang Theory? so it doesn’t really matter what it looks like. Will keep you updated on this one. What do you think so far? It may go through many changes.

Hello World- this is me, Claire Johnson the sole trader of C.Johnson Art and Design. I am a 27 year old married women living in a small country town in South Australia called Tantanoola. I am a house wife, casual administration assistant for an art gallery and then there is me, the artist/ designer. I do interior decorating, graphic design and painting. My painting style is mainly traditional and sometimes with a mixture of contemporary art as can be seen in my gallery on this site. Traditional being a very careful style- I am going to be brave and try my hand at an abstract painting for a South East Art Society exhibition. The theme is Genesis so I have bought a one metre by one metre canvas (biggest I have ever done) and will loosen up to create a piece which I will call The Big Bang Theory? I will keep you posted on how my totally abstract journey pans out.

FYI- Traditional painting is a realistic, careful style and results in a picture of objects that are very recognisable and life like. Contemporary or modern is a painting of objects that are recognisable but unrealistic to a degree, such as a multi coloured background with a realistic scene in the foreground. Therefore, abstract produces barely recognisable or not obvious objects with hardly any carefulness about the painting technique with splashes of colour and other ways of applying paint- totally the opposite to what I am used to doing- I may need a few drinks!
